Inaugurating the line of IMDS publications “Papers”, “Diagnosis of school abandonment and dropout in Brazil” is also the first in the series that addresses the issues of its title – school abandonment and dropout.

The publication covers indicators of abandonment and dropout throughout the recent history of education in Brazil, relates the issue to social mobility and discusses the main points of the school trajectory in which problems arise. Differences in the results between socioeconomic, demographic, and regional profiles, and distinctive administrative levels (education network) are also addressed.
