The Technical Note “The Labor Market in the Post-Pandemic: Reflections on Occupational Dynamics from the longitudinal analysis of individuals” examines the changes in the Brazilian labor market before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Using longitudinal data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNADC), the study investigates patterns of loss of occupation and resilience among different population groups.
The results show that the pandemic has intensified pre-existing vulnerabilities, affecting women, young people, and people with less education more severely. Despite the initial severe shock, the post-pandemic period saw a gradual recovery, with occupancy rates approaching pre-crisis levels.
The analysis highlights schooling and formalization as essential factors for occupational resilience, with formalized and more qualified workers facing lower risks of dismissal.
