Number of families in extreme poverty nearly doubles in a year in ES
The number of families living in poverty and extreme poverty has risen in Espírito Santo. According to a study conducted by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (Imds), in 2021, 14.2% of the population of Espírito Santo were living in poverty, and 6.1% in extreme poverty.
In 2020, 8.5% lived in poverty and 3.6% in extreme poverty. That is, the number of people living in worrisome conditions almost doubled from one year to the next.
Also, according to the study, in Brazil, Maranhão leads the poverty rate with 48.5% of the population living in these conditions. Santa Catarina, on the other hand, is the Unit of the Federation with the least poor, 7%.
