Who will support a country that will soon have more grandparents than grandchildren? How will today's young people grow up who neither study nor work? Will they be able to take care of their parents?
The number of unemployed and discouraged workers reached record levels even before the pandemic, and continues to rise. Precarious work in the informal sector, without social protection, condemns millions of citizens aged 50 or over to vulnerability, with little or no chance of returning to the formal job market.
Our industrial production in 2020 did not reach 10% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product), the smallest slice since 1947. The digital divide has grown during the pandemic, portrayed tirelessly on the pages of our newspaper every week. Data from the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS) show that 55% of the children of uneducated parents have no access to the Internet, compared to 4.9% with no access of those whose parents have higher education.
