The diploma that 98% of the poorest will never have
In recent weeks, Brazil has received a raw portrait of its own inequality. The Atlas of Social Mobility, an initiative of the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS) in partnership with Prospera Lab, revealed that, among the children of families that make up the poorest 25% of the country, only 1.58% manage to complete higher education. The distance between the two groups is almost 24 times, an abyss that portrays how family origin still determines the destiny of millions of Brazilians.
