Pacheco cited research conducted by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development that revealed that more than 11 million Brazilians went into poverty last year, bringing to 47.3 million (22.3% of the population) the number of Brazilians who were in poverty or extreme poverty areas by the end of 2021 – the highest percentage in ten years.
