Report reveals that the South reached 3 million people in poverty in 2021
Brazil ended last year with 47.3 million Brazilians in poverty. Of the total population that fell into poverty, the contingent in the South increased by 400,000, causing the poorest to represent 10% of the total population in this part of the country, ending the year with 3 million people in poverty.
The data are part of the survey carried out by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS) based on the income of Brazilian families, and reaches 22.3% of the total Brazilian population, the highest percentage in ten years.
