Extreme Poverty Increases 23% in Bahia, says Institute for Mobility and Social Development

Bahia ended 2021 with a per capita household income of R$ 850, which places the state in 21st place nationally. Only Amapá, Pernambuco, Pará, Amazonas, Alagoas and Maranhão recorded worse results. According to the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS), 20.5% of the average income of the Bahiano population comes from social programs, 56.3% comes from work salaries, while 18.1% comes from retirement income.
