Chronic deficiencies in education perpetuate social inequality
Brazil has made progress in the schooling of children and young people, but they are still insufficient to transform the reality of one of the most unequal countries in the world, according to data from the most recent Atlas of Social Mobility, prepared by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS), associated with Prospera Lab. In the portion of the 25% who were born into the poorest families in the country, 48% are in the same income range when they reach adulthood. Of the remaining 52%, 74% still remain in the lowest income half, only 8.3% reach the richest 25% – and a tiny group of 1.3% becomes part of the 10% with the highest income.
