The Atlas of Social Mobility, released on July 31, brings new evidence on the mechanisms of reproduction of inequalities in Brazil. The study points out that social mobility remains limited in the country, and that family origin continues to determine income opportunities, but highlights that the place where people are born and grow up exerts a decisive influence on their economic trajectories. “The Atlas contributes to deepening the understanding of Brazilian challenges and offers relevant evidence for the debate on urban development, territorial justice and reduction of inequalities”, points out the national coordinator of the Observatory of the Metropolis network, Luiz Cesar de Queiroz Ribeiro.
