Wide-open squalor every day is far from being resolved
Last year, more than 47 million Brazilians, according to household incomes, ended last year in poverty. This represents more than 22% of the population nationwide. It is the highest percentage in ten years, according to a survey conducted by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (Imds).
"Brazil had been on a historical trajectory of poverty reduction, but halfway through, a boulder appeared – the pandemic -, and we are still seeing its effects," says economist Paulo Tafner, CEO of Imds.
