According to a survey by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS), 4.2 million Pernambucanos fell into the poverty line in 2021. The number of Brazilians who faced some kind of food insecurity exceeded the 60 million mark according to a report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
