Study indicates majority of young people leaving Bolsa Família after 12 years
A new study conducted by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS) reveals that the Bolsa Família program has acted as a platform for the socioeconomic ascension of part of its dependents. The survey shows that of the 15.5 million young people between the ages of 7 and 16 who received the benefit in December 2012, a staggering 10.3 million, or 66.5% of them, managed to leave the program over the following 12 years, by 2024. This figure indicates an improvement in socioeconomic conditions and the partial effectiveness of income transfer policies in combating extreme poverty.
