Raquel Lyra says that “poverty has worsened in Pernambuco due to the absence of government”
For the pre-candidate for government Raquel Lyra (PSDB), the increase in poverty in Pernambuco – identified by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS) – is a symptom of a State that has lost government and leadership over the last eight years, when it elected and re-elected Governor Paulo Câmara.
The IMDS showed that Pernambuco ended 2021 with almost 44% of the population in poverty, equivalent to 4.2 million people from Pernambuco. Still according to the institute, this was the first time that the indicator was above 40% in the historical series. The highest percentage had been 38.12% in 2012.
