Less than half of Brazilians born among the poorest 50% manage to surpass their parents’ income
Less than half (49%) of children born between 1983 and 1990 are better off financially than their parents in adulthood. With birth strongly marking the future in the income pyramid, those born among the poorest 50% will hardly ever reach an income level that includes them among the richest 25%. Only 10.8% of adults between the ages of 35 and 42 have achieved this degree of advancement, according to the Atlas of Social Mobility, which the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS) launches today and to which O GLOBO had exclusive access.
