Digital exclusion grows in the pandemic and inequality increases

The Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS), recently created by economists Arminio Fraga, former president of the Central Bank, and Paulo Tafner, reported that only 29.6% of the children of uneducated parents have access to broadband. In households where parents have higher education, this share increases to 89.4%.

According to the survey, 55% of the children of uneducated parents do not have access to the Internet. The number drops to 4.9% when parents have college degrees.

“The boys and girls who are in private schools have online classes. And practically no public schools have had face-to-face or online classes. The possibility of social mobility has been reduced”, he adds.
