Social mobility is in the data — why does it remain outside the public debate?

As the first half of 2025 ends, an alarming fact makes us reflect: less than half of Brazilians born into the poorest families in the country manage to surpass their parents’ income. The finding is from the Atlas of Social Mobility, recently released by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS), which analyzed millions of intergenerational income links in Brazil.
