Political scientist Paulo Tafner – The challenge of social ascension in Brazil

In an interview with Marco Antonio Soalheiro, in Mundo Político, the CEO of the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS), political scientist Paulo Tafner, points out flaws in the country’s education that hinder poor young people from advancing socially. Tafner cites as another aspect the country’s low economic growth in the last 40 years. For the political scientist, it is the combination of these factors that results in low mobility for the vast majority of the population that is part of the lower income classes, in a scenario of historical inequality in Brazil. Paulo Tafner also talks about the study carried out by the Institute that raises this picture, comments on the cutout of the study on the performance of women and points to the experience of the city of Sobral, in Ceará, as an example of an educational model to be shared with the rest of the country.
