Mato Grosso do Sul leads the national ranking of social mobility, says Atlas

Mato Grosso do Sul is the state that has the highest probability of social ascension in Brazil, according to the Atlas of Social Mobility 2025. The survey reveals that children born in Mato Grosso do Sul have a 2.91% chance of being among the richest 10% in the country as adults. It is the highest rate among all the Units of the Federation.

The Atlas is the result of a partnership between the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS) and the Public Policy Evaluation Group (UFPE). According to the survey, Mato Grosso do Sul is ahead of the Federal District (2.83%), Goiás (2.81%) and Santa Catarina (2.77%) and above the national average, which is 1.81%. The average for the Midwest region is 2.81%.
