Low social mobility in Brazil: only 10.8% of the poorest move up the income ladder

A study by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS) released on Monday shows that social ascension in Brazil is still limited, especially for those born at the bottom of the income pyramid. According to the survey, only 10.8% of adults between 35 and 42 years of age from families in the poorest 50% reach the richest 25% group, evidencing the difficulties of moving up in the country’s socioeconomic structure.
