Brazil produces poor adults from poor parents
A new survey by the Institute for Mobility and Social Development (IMDS), with official income data from IBGE, the Federal Revenue Service and CadÚnico, among others, brings more precise and disturbing numbers about the barriers to the social ascension of the poorest.
Considering a period of 36 years, enough to ascertain what happened between one generation and another, the Atlas of Social Mobility points out that the probability of a child who is part of the poorest half of Brazilians reaching the richest 10% as an adult is less than 2%.
