Summary:

In the section of social mobility indicators on our portal, we provide a vast set of international indicators, based on data from the National Household Sample Survey, PNAD 2014, for Brazil, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD 2014, 2018), for 25 developed countries, and the World Bank (2018), for a set of 148 countries, comparing the educational levels of fathers and children in adulthood.

In this publication, we discuss some of these results, presenting the evolution of mobility for children from different age groups (OECD) or decades of birth (World Bank). We show that there have been advances and many Brazilians have achieved higher levels of education than their fathers, but that there is also room for progress that enables the country to reach a level closer to developed nations in terms of intergenerational mobility in education.

Comparisons of different "Brasis" with other nations are also made, based on gender and race or skin color clippings to the Brazilian data, which makes it possible to observe that advances are perceived differently depending on the population groups analyzed.
