Hundredth publication symbolizes IMDS's permanent institutional commitment to the production and dissemination of qualified knowledge on social mobility

The present edition of "IMDS Letter" has a particularly special significance. Upon reaching its 100th edition, the publication celebrates not only a numerical milestone, but above all the consolidation of a trajectory dedicated to critical reflection, dissemination of qualified knowledge and strengthening of the public debate on the great challenges for greater social mobility in Brazil.

Since its initial edition, on September 20, 2022, "IMDS Letter" has been asserting itself as a permanent space for analysis, dialogue, and knowledge production guided by the valorization of evidence and technical rigor. Along this path, each edition sought to contribute to the understanding of transformations experienced by Brazilian society, offering consistent, accessible and socially relevant interpretations on central themes for the country's development.

The one hundred editions published so far have brought to our readers the extensive range of studies and research carried out by the Institute, presented statistics produced by us on social mobility in Brazil and in the world, on poverty and its territorial contour, as well as made known the various Technical Cooperation Agreements signed with subnational entities, in addition to bringing to the reader themes, information and knowledge about various technical aspects related to mobility and social development in our country.

In this manner, we express, in a certain way, different moments of national life with their social, economic and demographic contours and relevant transformations in the world of work and its challenges, related to poverty, food insecurity and social vulnerability. In the midst of often complex and challenging contexts, "IMDS Letter" sought to preserve its vocation to promote qualified public debate, based on data, evidence, and rigorous technical analysis.

Throughout this trajectory, several topics were addressed in a multidisciplinary and in-depth way. Among them, discussions stand out on social protection, income inequality, productive inclusion, education, the labor market, early childhood, population aging, income transfer policies, and social impacts resulting from health crises, such as Covid. The publication sought to follow the evolution of Brazilian public policies within the scope of subnational entities, analyzing institutional advances, structural challenges and future perspectives for the strengthening of competitive capitalism and social inclusion.

More than a sequence of analytical texts, "IMDS Letters" today constitute an important collection of IMDS production and reflection on Brazilian reality. Each edition records results of research carried out by the Institute and its partners, statistics produced, and also concerns, debates and challenges of our society in the search for greater opportunities, poverty reduction and increased social mobility. It constitutes, to this extent, a modest but relevant intellectual and institutional heritage for public managers, researchers, students, civil society organizations, and all those interested in the construction of more effective, humane, and sustainable public policies.

One of the most striking aspects of this trajectory was the publication's ability to bring together technical knowledge and accessible language, expanding the reach of public debate, thus contributing to democratize access to qualified information. Over these four years "IMDS Letter" has become a space for the circulation of ideas, evidence, and experiences, favoring the construction of bridges between research, public policy formulation, and society.

Reaching the 100th edition represents, therefore, more than the continuity of a periodical publication. It represents the permanence of an institutional commitment to the production and dissemination of quality knowledge, guided by social responsibility and the search for solutions to the country's structural challenges of eradicating poverty and expanding social mobility.

This commemorative edition is also an opportunity to thank all those who contributed to the construction of this trajectory over time — researchers, authors, institutional partners, readers and collaborators who helped transform "IMDS Letter" into a respected space for analysis and reflection on Brazil. It is also an opportunity to thank the Institute’s supporters and collaborators and members of the Board of Directors who guide and determine the direction of IMDS.

By revisiting this path, it becomes evident that many of the challenges faced by Brazilian society remain current, requiring capacity for innovation, social sensitivity, and permanent commitment to the production of quality knowledge. In this way, the celebration of this 100th edition does not represent a point of arrival, but a symbolic milestone of continuity, renewing the commitment of the Institute for Mobility and Social Development - IMDS - to the strengthening of democratic debate, with the valorization of evidence, and with the commitment to technical support for the development, design, and implementation of public policies of subnational entities based on evidence and science.

It is, in short, an unwavering commitment of the Institution and its founders to the construction of a more dynamic, more inclusive and socially developed country.
