Meet the Social Mobility Impact Platform, IMDS' new tool

Virtual space brings together learning from promising initiatives in the solution of social problems

Hello, *|NOME|*

The joint effort of researchers, drafters and implementers of public policies and social programs has generated, in recent decades, a huge set of information on social impact initiatives around the world. However, making this knowledge available in a practical and agile tool of reflection for formulators is a challenge. With this in mind, IMDS built the Social Mobility Impact Platform, designed to be a starting point containing existing initiatives so as to increasingly consolidate a practice of using scientific evidence in Brazilian governments.

The Platform is a virtual space for learning about public policies and programs already evaluated and with results indicative of their effects on development and social mobility. The goal is to provide information that helps structure the cycle of evidence-based public policy. Thus, its target audience is those involved in the formulation and implementation of social policies and programs, members of civil society and those interested in the results of its monitoring and evaluation.

The Platform gathers in an organized and accessible way information about the central objectives, the place and the implementation period, the design, impact and operational mechanisms of public policies and social programs addressed in the academic literature on the subject. The elaboration section, in particular, seeks to present to the reader the concrete components associated with policies and programs and often brings examples directly linked to the implementation. Additionally, references are indicated of where the information was extracted and, when available, extra materials, such as videos and documents that provide more details for the reader who wishes to go deeply into the study on the initiatives.

One of the main features of the Platform is its search system, based on tags that include fundamental dimensions of interest to users. Thus, users can focus on policies and programs in a given geographic area (country or region of the world) or theme (such as Youth, Early Childhood, or Social Assistance). In addition, there is the possibility of focusing on policies and programs of a certain type, such as technical and vocational education, extension of the school day, charter schools or affirmative actions. These features are designed to filter searches and direct users to programs that most apply to their needs.

It is worth mentioning that the information organized on the platform is not a repository of formulas or recipes, but an environment to enjoy inputs that encourage reflection on how to apply policies that have already proved effective in contributing to coping with social problems.

Finally, we remind you that the Platform is a "living" tool, fueled by new evidence, whether from new policies or fresh insights into policies already listed. Therefore, we invite the public to visit the Platform and contribute with suggestions.

See you in the next IMDS Letter!
